For writers
Following two stints as President of the Lake Macquarie Branch of the Fellowship of Australian Writers, in 2015/16 Jan Mitchell became Acting President. She is still an active member of this group and its committee.
Lake Mac FAW is highly supportive of new writers as well as those who are more established. Current members are writers of poetry, short stories, novels, magazine articles, memoir and biography. The branch runs two monthly critique groups, where individual work is gone over in detail around the table. This provides an excellent first round of editing for those wishing to publish. Members have a wide range of skills for helping other writers During 2011, six members of LMFAW published their works using the digital on demand printing arm of Amazon Books - Create Space. Amazon no longer supports Australian writers, so members are moving to using two other international printing companies, Ingram Spark and Lulu These companies provide similar support to that we are used to, with a choice of templates for book format and cover design, editing and other essential services, including printing. Ingram Spark also provides global distribution services. You pay according to the services used. The advantages of these two companies are that they have printing arrangements in Melbourne and books are quickly shipped from there. |
